Single Payer = Taxpayer-Funded Abortion

Wednesday, the House Budget Committee held a hearing on “Key Design Components and Considerations for Establishing a Single-Payer Health Care System.”

The related legislation, the Medicare for All Act of 2019 (H.R. 1384), specifically includes abortion in a single-payer health care system.

Title II, Section 201(a)(7) states “Comprehensive Benefits” would include “Comprehensive reproductive, maternity, and newborn care.”

“Reproductive…care” is a euphemism for abortion, the killing of unborn children.

Title VII, Section 701(b)(3) states “RESTRICTIONS SHALL NOT APPLY.—Any other provision of law in effect on the date of enactment of this Act restricting the use of Federal funds for any reproductive health service shall not apply to monies in the Trust Fund.”

The Hyde Amendment, which prevents federal funds from being used for abortion, is exactly the kind of “other provision of law in effect” that this language is designed to circumvent.
